Hey Cosmic Girls! If you had the opportunity to ask a member of a pioneering exploration family any question you might have about space, exploration, missions, whatever you have been curious about, what would you ask? Well, here is your chance to do so!!!
Space2Sea Antarctica, moderated by Janet’s Planet own Janet Ivey Duensing (and a COSMIC GIRL HERSELF!!!) is giving you Cosmic Girls an opportunity to ask Jacque Cousteau’s Granddaughter a question. If your question is chosen, your name will be mentioned, along with your question and that YOU ARE AN AMAZING COSMIC GIRL! WHOOP! This event takes place on December 20th.
Celine Cousteau is taking YOUR questions about anything you have ever been curious about and will be answering them! Please leave your questions in the comments below this post.
Celine Cousteau wears many hats, as a conservationist, diver, filmmaker, author, and many more titles, who connects humans with nature, while calling for the preservation of our planet via exploration for social education.
Did you know that 80% of our planet’s oceans remain unexplored? Did you know that life and health of our oceans directly correlates with the entire planet’s health?
Did you know that in the 1960’s, NASA, in partnership with Jacque Cousteau, started a program to put human into Earth vast waters and onto the ocean’s floors, to study the effects of deep diving, while exploring the oceans around them. These dives were used to simulate space environments, as the ocean shares many similarities, including the use of robotic explorers and the study of environments that could support life.
Did you know that Jacque Cousteau’s Aquanauts, as they would become known, included some original astronauts but also a group of women, including Sylvia Earle- who still dives, explores and advocates to this day!

Scuba diving and being able to operate in a microgravity environment goes hand in hand as training for all Astronauts. Imagine, being able to experience working in a space environment before ever stepping a space boot on another planet!!!!
This is so cool! My question: When you are under water and you look around, do you experience a cognitive shift similar to the overview effect that astronauts expierence when looking down at Earth?
PS: Because of Jacque Cousteau's documentaries my mother started scuba diving! Which eventually led to me joining the swim team. :)
I’ve already asked a question to someone else on the panel through the official website. However if there’s time, I’m happy to ask a second one. My question is: do you think exploring new underground seas in space (such as the one found on Europa) to learn new things is worth the potential financial and ethical cost? Thank you!
If Jacques Cousteau were alive today, how do you think you, as his granddaughter, would collaborate with him to explore the ocean, and what unique wisdom or methods do you think he would share with you from his groundbreaking work?
